Dredging around the Point

The county dredge has been parked in the Herring River for a while now, sending sand over to Pleasant Road Beach. The pile is already much higher from additional dredging in Allen Harbor.

More pics will follow, but the last few days have been WAY TOO COLD to venture anywhere near the beach!

Snow on Cape Cod

A snowy and sunny day in Old Mill Point today. Still a few inches on the ground, and the air is 24 degrees and chilly at the moment.

Happy Martin Luther King Day Long Weekend to you all! Stay Warm!

Call from the Harwich Harbormaster

Automated phone calls went out to area residents today from the Harwich Harbormaster.

The Pleasant Road Beach is being used as a storage/drainage area for the dredged material coming out of Allen Harbor. The beach will be closed as the material/sand/muck is piled there - and it will be there about two months (so, into March or April)

He warned that it "may smell."

The parking area will be open for cars, if you want to drive through and check it out, but the beach itself will be closed.

Snow and Sun and Construction Update

It's finally warm enough today to take the dogs for a walk on the beach - well, it's still below freezing, but there's no wind and the air feels crisp and clean rather than scary-cold. (Hey, it's been up above 20 degrees since 8 a.m. for a change! It's been a really Cold last couple of days!) A thin sheen of ice blanketed the shells and seaweed along the strand line, glistening as the sun climbed into the sky. I couldn't quite capture it in the photos... beautiful.

The construction workers are moving right along at 2 Seaway. Thought I'd include an updated photo of the project - although the rising sun made it difficult to get a good photo. If you click on the picture below, it should enlarge a bit. (The white portion of the house to the right is the original house and porch - the piles on the left side of the photo are mounds of dirt, not snow!) I heard a rumor that they're hoping to be finished by the end of May. At this rate, they might make it, and it's going to be beautiful!
