Can It Be Spring Yet?

Spring is on it's way to Cape Cod.

They predicted more snow for earlier this week...
and everyone grumbled.
And then it didn't come.
And everyone grumbled.
Me?
It's spring. I'm done with snow.
On to the next activity...

Painting of "Doble's Point"

I received an interesting email this week, as well as an attachment of this piece of artwork. The sender gave me permission to post onto this blog, to see if anyone knows anything about this image, or about the artist.

Here's the email:

My Name's Joseph Smith. I'm fascinated because I have an original watercolor (I suppose it could be a pastel) hanging on my wall of Doble's Point, Cape Cod signed by Rattigan (?).

In doing research, I came across a postcard for sale of almost exactly the same scene...but by someone different. I've stumbled across your blog site and have gleaned a little about the history of the area. I'm just wondering about this painting....and its artist. Any thoughts??
 Thanx, Joe Smith

I've already written back to tell him where the scene was painted, etc., but if anyone has further information the man would appreciate it. Or especially if you recognize the artist's name? You can post answers here in the comment section and I will orward to make sure he sees them. Or call me if that's easier.

(I would think the art must be from the first half of the 1900s to be labeled "Doble's Point" instead of "Old Mill Point.")

Thanks - and spring is just around the corner!

Sunshine and Progress

The sun is shining today, and low tide at the beach was pretty nice this morning. Our beaches fared fairly well through the recent storms - let's hope we continue to be so lucky.

And in other signs of Spring, the house at the end of Seaway is coming right along. The main house has all it's exterior siding up and windows in place. I saw wallboard being delivered this week, so the interior must be progressing nicely as well. Hard to believe this was mostly a hole in the ground just a few short months ago! It's looking beautiful!

More Snow? Really?

Wet, cold, blustery weather has descended on Old Mill Point again. While it's barely sticking around here (because of all the rain in the mix...) it does make for a yucky few days.

I haven't been up to check on the beaches since Monday, but with the higher than usual tides and the driving winds, I'm a little worried. We'll just have to see what happens.

Keep your fingers crossed...

Annual Dues are Due!

It may still be cold and blowing here on the Cape, but it's time to start thinking of Summer...

Bills for the annual dues went out earlier this year and payments were due last week. Thank you to everyone who got their checks in on time this year, but there are still quite a few outstanding.

Your dues help maintain our beaches, roads and docks. The money keeps the streetlights on and the pathways clear and mowed. Pays for trash pickups and speed bump storage. All the basic tasks that go on in the background all year long so we can relax and enjoy our summer at the shore.

If you've already sent your payment, thank you. If you haven't yet mailed it, please do so this week.

Late notices will be mailed at the end of next week.

Twelve weeks until Memorial Day Weekend!

Spring is in the Air!

The sun is shining today for the second time this week - maybe Spring will make it to Cape Cod after all.

The snow is mostly melted and signs of life are stirring in the gardens. Can it be long before the landscapers are back to clean up the mess from the winter storms?

Ah, March is here.
