The motorcycle leading the way was new this year - - and he promised that next year he'd find himself some flashing lights and even a helmet...

By the time the parade had reached the last downhill portion of the neighborhood, the marchers stopped to sing Happy Birthday to America, and the Star Spangled Banner, before continuing on their journey back to Pine Lane.

4th of July Parade, Part One

Old Mill Point has its very own 4th of July parade each year, thanks to the Doyle Family Minutemen (and women!) The neighborhood turns out to both watch and participate...


Eager marchers get their "floats" together, don their red white and blue gear, and head down Pine Lane to line up with the rest of the decorated bikes, scooters, strollers, dogs...

Neighbors have started to bring out the lawn chairs early, making it more and more "official" as the years go by. It isn't as bad as jockeying for chair space at the Chatham parade (where I need to get in my car at 4:30 a.m. to drive over with our parade chairs!) The OMP parade route is a lot more relaxed.
Even the neighborhood dogs get front-row seats to watch the parade march on by.

July has finally reached Old Mill Point, a month of hydrangea blooms and boogie boards...


Make plans to spend some time in the neighborhood... we're in for a beautiful month...

Summer Arrives on Cape Cod

The hot weather is finally here. Yesterday was sunny, beautiful, and HOT. Today is supposed to be more of the same. Possible thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday...

Nice weather has been ordered for Friday, and the weathermen seem to be confirming our request for clear skies - - - which would make this year's Season Kickoff Cocktail Party the first in a few years which wasn't accompanied by thunderstorms and cloudbursts! We'll have to wait and see....

And hope we see you all there Friday night, 6-8. If you haven't already, take a minute to phone in your RSVP!

It's amazing how each issue seems to take on a life of its own, creating an overarching theme where we hadn't realized there was going to be one... and then you step back and look at everything as it pulls together and say "Aha! This issue is about..."

The Summer issue is about being brave enough to follow your dreams. For example, in our Life Stories section, you can read about one Cape mom who's taking her young daughter and moving to Mexico for the coming school year, in search of adventure. And read about another brave woman who chucked a secure job in the financial sector to follow her dreams of becoming a chef.

We have another article by Jen Villa, who followed her dreams a year ago to open her own art gallery here on Cape Cod and is now helping and promoting other women in their pursuit of artistic dreams. Debbie Hagen tells us how she's coming full circle in her life, by combining her previous career in nursing with her holistic shop.

Lynn Delaney's "Message from Spirit" always comes to us at the last minute, as Lynn waits for her spirit guides to deliver their message... and again, it never fails to amaze me how the messages fit in with the themes of the issues. This one's theme is "Shift Up from the Gear of Fear" ... don't let fear of failure stop you from pursuing your dreams.

On days like this, I feel truly blessed to be working with such a wonderful group of women and putting out such a good-looking and thought-provoking magazine.

June is here! Summer is coming!

There's a lot of seaweed this week - which is okay, I guess, since beach cleanings start soon.

We're all looking forward to a great summer - it sounds like the warm weather is on tap starting this weekend.

Next Friday night is the annual "season opener" cocktail party, hosted this year by the Basemans. We'll see you there to catch up on all the news - I'll be the one bringing deviled eggs, at my husband's insistence...
