Call from the Harwich Harbormaster

Automated phone calls went out to area residents today from the Harwich Harbormaster.

The Pleasant Road Beach is being used as a storage/drainage area for the dredged material coming out of Allen Harbor. The beach will be closed as the material/sand/muck is piled there - and it will be there about two months (so, into March or April)

He warned that it "may smell."

The parking area will be open for cars, if you want to drive through and check it out, but the beach itself will be closed.

Snow and Sun and Construction Update

It's finally warm enough today to take the dogs for a walk on the beach - well, it's still below freezing, but there's no wind and the air feels crisp and clean rather than scary-cold. (Hey, it's been up above 20 degrees since 8 a.m. for a change! It's been a really Cold last couple of days!) A thin sheen of ice blanketed the shells and seaweed along the strand line, glistening as the sun climbed into the sky. I couldn't quite capture it in the photos... beautiful.

The construction workers are moving right along at 2 Seaway. Thought I'd include an updated photo of the project - although the rising sun made it difficult to get a good photo. If you click on the picture below, it should enlarge a bit. (The white portion of the house to the right is the original house and porch - the piles on the left side of the photo are mounds of dirt, not snow!) I heard a rumor that they're hoping to be finished by the end of May. At this rate, they might make it, and it's going to be beautiful!

December weather is finally here

It finally feels like December here on the Cape... time to bundle up for those beach walks! The Christmas decorations are all around town, and the merchants are all in good cheer as many shoppers have decided to buy local this holiday season.

The Upper County Road bridge is still under construction, so you'll still need to take alternate routes if you get off Route 6 at Exit 9. There's also construction along 28 through Dennis, as well as Lower County Road in Dennis. Leave a little extra time and you'll be fine.

Whatever you're doing this last week before Christmas, take time to relax and enjoy.

Time for some Holiday Baking!

While I love baking cookies any time of year, the holidays are my FAVORITE time to break out the rolling pin, the colored sugars, the M&Ms... oh, who am I kidding about the M&Ms? Those are good all year 'round!

But seriously, I love baking Christmas cookies, and am so thankful that my daughter loves to be right by my side baking up a storm! (and that she is weird and doesn't like eating M&Ms, so more for me!)

She even helped me out with an article about Creative Cookies for the Holiday Issue of CapeWomenOnline magazine, you know, that place I'm supposed to be working today but am too busy baking cookies (I wish!)

Anyway, check out her story and our recipes for old-fashioned Stained Glass Cookies and Peanut Butter Blossoms - yes, the ones with the whole Hershey Kiss sitting on the top! You can find the recipes in the Creative Women section of CapeWomenOnline magazine, along with photos.
