Snowman Day in Old Mill Point

We finally got our first snowstorm on Cape Cod this weekend. My daughter has been waiting all year to make a snowman, since somehow she never made one at all last year. I've been hearing about her plans for months.

She spent hours outside during the storm yesterday, rolling up the balls, but couldn't lift them by herself. I told her we'd help her when it stopped snowing. Which was this morning.

This snowman reminds me of a time back in the 19070s, when we had a huge storm, and all the kids in the neighborhood worked together to build an eight foot tall snowman. We measured. Eight feet and five inches tall. We had to use a ladder to put the face on, too. My oldest son, hugging the snowman on the right, is 6'1", so my daughter's snowman rivals the one in my memory...

What's your favorite snowman memory?

Ocean Effect Snow!

While I hear it's all blue skies on the other side of the bridge today, we're having some ocean-effect snow showers here in Old Mill Point. Soft, silent, snowy day. A nice change from the high winds of the rest of the week - gusts were clocked in Harwich up to 78 mph! And it wasn't even a "storm" !! What a strange January it's been, weather-wise...

Windy Week!

Yesterday was rainy and windy - today is sunny and even more windy! It's not yet high tide as Itook these photos, and you can see the waves burying the OMP jetty that runs between SeaWay and Strandway beaches.

About 50 seagulls were huddled on the beach, just above the tide mark, staying out of the wicked wind.

Happy long weekend to all!

Construction on the Point

The streets are busy despite what the calendar says. It's not neighbors, but construction vehicles - two of our neighbors, the Kehoes and the Czarneckis, are having their homes remodeled. The above shot is of the now non-existant Kehoe home.

So when you're dreaming of how quiet and peaceful it must be on the Point in December... well, not this year. But both homes are making good progress and will hopefully be complete before it's time to open the windows and welcome Spring and Summer - and most of our neighbors - back to the Cape.

The Holidays are on their Way!

Thanksgiving is over, as the calendar rushes headlong into the holiday season. The Point's entrance is decorated and ready to welcome neighbors to town for the Holiday Stroll in Harwichport this Friday, December 2nd.

Concerts, carols, crafts, cookies and cider, and lots of good cheer! It's also holiday stroll weekend in a few other Cape towns this weekend - for a town-by-town listing of what's going on, check out the Community Action section of CapeWomenOnline magazine. We've got links to all the different sites hosting strolls and events - all organized by town on one easy page.

Happy start of the Holiday Season!
